North Jersey Regional Science Fair -- 2012

The NJRSF for 2012 was held on the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University, March 16-17, 2012.

Team Projects are going to ISEF again this year

Beginning with the 2010 fair, the NJRSF has announced that team projects will be explicitly included in the projects selected to attend ISEF. This change stems from a major grant to the science fair as part of the Netflix Award contributions announced by AT&T Labs in November 2009. With the reorganization of ISEF , as of 2011, we no longer have "Junior and Senior Divisions" as in past years, but we are maintaining that organization internally: Senior division is grades 11-12 and Junior is grades 9-10. We are allocated 5 project slots in ISEF for 2012. We plan to use these for two individual projects from grades 11-12, one individual project from grades 9-10, and one team project, selected across all grades. The final slot will be allocated according to the judges' preference, but other things being equal, we would expect to use it for a junior division individual project. The final judging of the team projects for ISEF selection will be carried out separately from that of the individual projects, and teams will not participate in the finalist symposium.

Important Dates:

Dec. 1, 2011 -- Precertification of all projects that fall under ISEF certification rules.
Feb 10, 2012 -- Entry deadline. All students involved in individual or team projects must have their projects registered on the website by this date, and all ISEF forms (except form 1C) submitted. The submission of ISEF forms is performed entirely on-line this year. See the links on the top page of this site for details. You should note that the deadline for ISEF form submission is earlier (Dec 1, above) for any project that involves hazardous equipment or materials, vertebrate animals, human subjects, biological microorganisms of any kind, or recombinant DNA. Once you have completed the project registration, you should find content in your Entry Status screen (see Student dropdown menu), which will detail the remaining steps, including advisor certification, category certification, form submission, and payment of entry fees.
A note to students who remember our process from past years: you will no longer receive an entry form by email after entering. This is now one of the forms to be submitted electronically, and it is available on our Forms Download Page. Note that digital signatures are NOT required for 2012, and in fact are discouraged.
Mar. 5, 2012 -- If applicable to your project, Form 1C must be submitted by this date, if you are unable to submit it with your other forms due in early Feb or on Dec. 1. Note that the Form 1C is not required for pre-certification.
Mar. 9, 2012 -- Abstract deadline. Your abstract must be submitted by this date. The abstracts are to be submitted electronically. (Note you must be logged in on the website in order for this process to work properly.) Please note that you are to submit the *text* of your abstract in the online form.. No other format is accepted. We would appreciate it if those who are able to would submit ahead of the deadline. You are allowed to update your abstracts until the day of the fair.
March 14, 2012 -- Withdrawal deadline. Withdrawal after this date will entail loss of your entry fee.

Final Fair Information Packet

The final information packet for the fair is now ready for distribution. This contains maps, the schedule, and final instructions for students, parents, and advisors.
